Is it too late to defect to Russia?

(SONG CONTEST BELOW)

The other day I was talking to a woman from Russia that el esposo works with and she told me that she got 3 months maternity leave BEFORE the baby was born (fully paid) and 18 months AFTER the baby was born (I think part of it was full pay but most was half pay).

Do they still call it "defecting" anyway?

P.s., A quick bit of wikipedia-ing shows Russia is not normally as generous as this woman's experience, but every country except for Swaziland is more generous than the US, all offering some paid leave (from weeks to years).

Yeah, in Germany they allow new moms to take off up to four years of unpaid leave and be allowed to come back to their job. Even though it is unpaid, I think they still get some sort of "maternity pay" similar to unemployment during that time.

They have the same thing here in Argentina; 3 months REQUIRED maternity leave, to be taken before, during or after. It makes the workplace here all the more interesting when 2/3 of the employees are Argentine nationals and they get all those benefits and their U.S. nat'l co-workers do not!

In France they give you a government instituted nanny for a year. She'll do your laundry even! (At least that's what I learned from Michael Moore's "Sicko")
